Harambee Stars have resumed training ahead of their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Eritrea after concerns over outstanding allowances disrupted preparations.
The national team was back on the training pitch on Friday morning as preparations for Saturday’s Group D encounter at Nyayo National Stadium entered the final stage.
The return to training comes after the players had reportedly delayed preparations while seeking clarification over allowances from previous national-team assignments.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports addressed the matter on Thursday, saying it had met its financial obligations relating to earlier Harambee Stars engagements.
In a statement issued on September 24, the ministry said allowances connected to assignments in Zambia, South Africa and Turkey had been paid. It also said payments linked to Kenya’s Under-20 CECAFA assignment in Tanzania had been settled.
The ministry further stated that outstanding salaries involving the Harambee Stars technical bench had been paid through the Football Kenya Federation and to the respective members of the technical team.
It, however, noted that any payments connected to later assignments that remain outstanding are still going through the required administrative process in consultation with FKF.
The government also urged all parties to handle administrative concerns through the appropriate channels so that they do not interfere with the team’s preparations.
The development clears the way for Harambee Stars to turn their attention to Eritrea, with the two sides scheduled to meet on Saturday at Nyayo Stadium.
Kenya are in Group D alongside Eritrea, South Africa and Guinea in the AFCON 2027 qualifying competition.
Despite already securing a place at the 2027 AFCON finals as one of the tournament’s host nations, Harambee Stars are taking part in the qualification campaign. The matches offer the team competitive preparation ahead of the finals.
