Gor Mahia begin their 2026/27 FKF Premier League title defence on Tuesday night when they host Murang’a Seal at Nyayo National Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7pm.
The defending champions will be targeting a winning start after claiming last season’s league title, while Murang’a Seal hope to make a positive statement against the reigning champions.
Both sides will be looking to improve on their opening results from last season.
Gor Mahia lost 1-0 to Bidco United, while Murang’a Seal suffered a similar defeat against Ulinzi Stars.
Odhiambo on Murang’a Seal’s preparations
Murang’a Seal head coach Dennis Odhiambo says his team has prepared well for the new campaign after playing several friendly matches to assess the squad and help new signings settle.
The club released several players and brought in new arrivals, some of whom travelled to Tanzania for training matches designed to help them understand the team’s style of play.
Odhiambo acknowledged the importance of building chemistry within the squad as the league gets underway.
He also recognised the quality in Gor Mahia’s team, saying Murang’a Seal would need to remain focused and perform at their best to compete.
The coach revealed that two unnamed players are recovering from injuries after spending a couple of weeks out of training.
“We have had a few injuries, with two players having been out of training for a couple of weeks. They resumed rehabilitation this week, and we will continue assessing them,” Odhiambo said.
He also thanked Murang’a Seal supporters for standing by the team last season and urged them to turn out in numbers for the new campaign.
Odongo provides Gor Mahia fitness update
Gor Mahia team doctor Brian Odongo has provided an update on Lawrence Juma, Sylvester Owino and Felix Oluoch ahead of the season opener.
Juma has resumed training after sustaining an arm injury during the Super Cup match against Tusker FC, although he is still being gradually reintegrated into football-specific activities.
“Lawrence has resumed training after staying away with an arm injury. He is currently undergoing re-integration into football-specific activities,” Odongo said.
Defender Owino continues his rehabilitation after suffering a calf injury, with the club doctor indicating that he is progressing to higher-intensity activities.
Striker Oluoch is further along in his recovery following knee surgery and has moved into sport-specific training.
“Felix is on the final phase of rehabilitation following a knee surgery. He has progressed to sports-specific training and football functional exercises,” Odongo said.
The updates come as the champions prepare to begin their title defence, with Tuesday’s match offering both teams their first opportunity to collect points in the new campaign.
