Murang’a Seal head coach Dennis Odhiambo says his team is ready for the challenge of facing defending champions Gor Mahia in their FKF Premier League opener, despite having two players recovering from injuries.

Seal travel to Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday night for the 7pm kick-off, with Odhiambo confident that his side have prepared well for the new season.

The coach revealed that the two players had spent a couple of weeks out of training but resumed rehabilitation this week. Their availability for the Gor Mahia match, however, remains subject to further assessment.

“We have had a few injuries, with two players having been out of training for a couple of weeks. They resumed rehabilitation this week, and we will continue assessing them,” Odhiambo said.

Murang’a Seal have played several friendly matches as part of their preparations, giving the technical bench an opportunity to assess the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Odhiambo is also satisfied with how the new signings have settled into the team following an overhaul that saw the club release several players.

The coach said the club used its preparations, including training matches in Tanzania, to help the new arrivals understand the team’s style of play and build an understanding with their teammates.

With the league now getting underway, he acknowledged the need to bring the squad together quickly, saying the technical bench was working to ensure the new players adapt to the club’s expectations.

Tuesday’s match will offer an early test of that progress against a Gor Mahia side that won last season’s league title.

Odhiambo acknowledged the quality in the champions’ squad, insisting that his players would need to remain focused and perform at their best to compete.

He also warned against taking the fixture lightly, noting that every match presents a different challenge and that his side must be alert from the opening whistle.

Despite the difficult assignment, the coach believes his players have shown encouraging signs during preparations and are ready to give a good account of themselves.

Odhiambo also took time to recognise the role played by Murang’a Seal supporters last season, thanking them for standing by the team during both difficult and successful periods.

He urged them to turn out in numbers at the start of the new campaign and continue backing the club as it seeks to make a positive start.

Both teams will be looking to improve on their opening results from last season. Gor Mahia lost 1-0 to Bidco United, while Murang’a Seal suffered a similar 1-0 defeat to Ulinzi Stars.
