Kariobangi Sharks landed in Mombasa on Wednesday as they prepare for Thursday’s crucial promotion-relegation playoff against Mombasa United.
The first leg kicks off at 2pm at Mbaraki Sports Club, with the return match scheduled for Nairobi on Tuesday, October 6.
Ahead of the clash, hosts Mombasa United will hold a media briefing at Mbaraki Sports Club from 2pm on Wednesday. The session will feature the club’s head coach Abdulhamid Moalim and captain, who will speak to journalists about the team’s preparations ahead of the playoff.
We invite all members of the media and journalists to a Press Conference featuring our Head Coach and Team Captain ahead of the Playoffs,” the club said.
After weeks of court cases and delays that have left the 2026/27 FKF Premier League in limbo, the two clubs will finally settle the last top-flight slot on the pitch.

Sharks finished 16th in the Premier League last season, while Mombasa United came third in the National Super League. The two-legged playoff was confirmed after Football Kenya Federation stepped in to mediate the dispute.
The winner on aggregate will take the final Premier League place for the new season, while the loser will play in the National Super League.
Interestingly, the two sides have never met in a competitive match before, making Thursday’s clash their first meeting in a competitive fixture.
Sharks will be looking for a positive result away from home to take back to Nairobi for the second leg. Mombasa United, meanwhile, will be hoping to make home advantage count in front of their supporters at Mbaraki.
Tickets for the first leg are already on sale through the official FKF ticketing platform. Regular entry costs KSh 200, while VIP tickets are going for KSh 500.
With the new Premier League season still waiting to get underway, the two matches will finally determine which club gets the final ticket to Kenya’s top flight.
